Thompson
One of three historically-inspired American Master Series reproductions in this collection, this SR5 harnesses the true original formula to deliver a stunning instrument crafted with artisan precision and exacting detail. In order to bestow a proper name on this instrument, the LA team decided to harken back to Master Luthier Tak Hosono's beginnings with Hoshino. At the time the original American Master series guitars were built at Tak's shop, located on Thompson Street in Glendale, CA, therefore the crew felt Thompson would be a subtle, but historically relevant reference to Tak's early career. Upon first glance, one's attention is immediately drawn to the dynamic pattern and deep figure of the Quilted Maple top. Underneath the natural gloss finish, the top grain truly dances. The lighter shades of the Maple also contrast beautifully against the dark, rich, grain of the Rosewood fingerboard. As with any Ibanez American Master series instrument, the neck-thru construction affords fantastic levels of sustain and seamless access to the upper frets. The American Master Series SR5 is a classic design that utilizes the natural beauty of the selected tone woods and the expert skill of the LA Custom Shop.

Not only is this instrument loaded with expertise in design and incredibly high-quality materials, but the electronics also offer an outstanding degree of tonal control without being overwhelming to the user. An active 3-band EQ with sweepable mid-range is paired with a set of Nordstand NJ5 pickups, delivering an outstanding array of highly musical tones.

Neck-through construction paired with a Maple / Purpleheart neck and center block was a combination at the core of the American Master series, and this design element has been reincorporated into the special reissue. This combination maintains a true and authentic representation of the original series and provides a clean and classic look to the back of the bass.

This bass utilizes a vintage SR body design, rather than the more rounded, contemporary shape. The front and back of the body are flat, and the SR5 features a conventional forearm and belly cut, making the bass especially comfortable for those more accustomed to traditional bass bodies and their relief cuts.
